The original Scratch-n-Sniff Variety Show’s debut performance was a bit of a dream come true for me! Almost 15 years ago, I saw a variety show in San Francisco that spurred my interest in creating one myself. While I had produced one back in my hometown in Ohio, the experience of creating one in San Francisco was a whole other level. Oh My…the talent in this city!
We were fortunate to launch the show with an amazing group of talented performers. Ten different inspired and unusual acts performed to a sell out crowd at 50 Mason Social House in San Francisco. Acts included roller-skating dance artists, an invented instrument performer, comedians, an acappella singing duo, a dance spectacle with sword balancing skills, original musical acts, offbeat comedic songs, and a sideshow elements too.
Also big hits in the show were the Scratch-n-Sniff audience interactive elements. The Nose Knows: Scent Based Matchmaking Experiment proved to be ridiculously funny. Our lovely bachelorette sniffed her way to choosing her date. Our couple was sent on an all expensed paid date, which we will hear all about it at our next show. We shall see how our pheromone experiment worked out, and try another. We gave a way a Scratch-n-Sniff Map of San Francisco as a prize to the winner of the Name that Smell Contest. Who knew such maps existed before putting on this show? The featured musical group, The Dull Richards, closed our the variety show and provided an encore performance. I think a good round of pleasant scratching and sniffing was had by all.
The next Original Scratch-n-Sniff Variety Show is Thursday, April 18 from 7-9 p.m. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets are only $10 and seating is limited. More info and tickets at www.snsshow.org.
